Privacy Policy

CarNudge ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data. By using the CarNudge app, you agree to this policy.

1. Who we are

CarNudge is a UK-based car maintenance reminder app developed and operated as an independent application. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact us at privacy@CarNudge.app.

2. What information we collect

We collect the following types of information:

• Account information — your email address and name when you create an account via email, Google, or Apple sign-in.
• Vehicle information — your vehicle registration plate, which we use to look up your vehicle details via the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service.
• Vehicle data from DVLA — make, model, year, colour, fuel type, MOT expiry date, and road tax due date. This data is provided by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) under their Vehicle Enquiry Service terms.
• Maintenance records — logs of completed maintenance checks you record within the app.
• Device information — device type and push notification token for sending reminders.
• Subscription information — whether you are on a free or Pro plan, managed via RevenueCat. We do not store or process payment card details.

3. How we use your information

We use your information solely to provide and improve the CarNudge service:

• To identify your vehicle and provide personalised maintenance schedules
• To send you maintenance reminders and MOT/tax expiry alerts via push notifications
• To store your maintenance history log
• To manage your account and subscription status
• To improve the app based on usage patterns

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your data to any third party.

4. DVLA data

When you enter your vehicle registration plate, we query the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service API to retrieve your vehicle details. This is done in accordance with the DVLA's terms of use for their API. We cache this data for up to 24 hours to reduce unnecessary queries. Your registration plate and vehicle data are stored securely in our database and are only accessible by you.

5. Third party services

CarNudge uses the following third party services to operate:

• Supabase — authentication and database hosting. Your account data is stored securely on Supabase infrastructure. See supabase.com/privacy.
• RevenueCat — subscription and in-app purchase management. RevenueCat processes subscription events from Apple. See revenuecat.com/privacy.
• Apple App Store / Google Play — app distribution and payment processing for subscriptions.
• Railway — cloud infrastructure hosting for our backend API.
• DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service — vehicle data lookups.

6. Data storage and security

Your data is stored on secure servers hosted in the EU. We use industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit. Access to your data is protected by row-level security — only you can access your own vehicle and maintenance data.

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data will be permanently deleted within 30 days.

7. Your rights under UK GDPR

As a UK user you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Right to access — you can request a copy of the data we hold about you
• Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate data
• Right to erasure — you can ask us to delete your account and all associated data
• Right to portability — you can request your data in a portable format
• Right to object — you can object to how we process your data

8. Children's privacy

CarNudge is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Push notifications

We send push notifications to remind you about upcoming maintenance checks, MOT expiry, and road tax renewal. You can disable push notifications at any time in your device settings. Disabling notifications does not affect your ability to use the app.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes via the app or by email. The date at the top of this page shows when the policy was last updated. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
